General Information
Hearing Freedom Manufacturers

As an independent clinic, we carry and service all makes and models of hearing aids including, but not limited to, Bernafon, Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Siemens, Sonic, Starkey, Unitron and Widex. Our commitment to healthcare is evidenced in our refusal to deal with a select few Manufacturers. By being familiar with all the available products and features on the market today, we are able to offer our patients what they need based on their individual hearing loss, their needs and their treatment choices. The hearing aid selection process is thereby truly individualized and never a “one size fits all” model.

We offer all different sizes and styles of hearing aids, depending on your specific needs. The size and style of hearing aid you choose depends on several factors, including the type and severity of your hearing loss, the size and shape of your ear, your degree of manual dexterity and visual acuity, as well as your physical and cosmetic preferences.

Many hearing aids today come with the option of having on-board controls such as a push button for different memories, or a volume control to adjust the level of sound. In addition, recent advances in technology have made it so that some hearing aids have wireless compatibilities such as remote controls and/or Bluetooth capabilities.

Hearing Aid Styles
Mini-Completely-In-Canal (mCIC)
Mini-Completely-In-Canal (mCIC)

These hearing aids are the smallest on the market. They are custom built to fit discreetly and deeply inside of your ear canal making them virtually invisible. Because of space restrictions, mCIC’s do not possess on-board controls, wireless capabilities. In addition, the size and shape of your ear as well as your degree of hearing loss will determine if you are eligible for this type of hearing aid.

Completely-In-Canal (CIC)
Completely-In-Canal (CIC)

These hearing aids fit neatly into the canal portion of your ear. They are very discrete, but do no sit as deeply in the ear canal as a mini-CIC. Some CIC’s come with simple on-board controls, although the majority do not have wireless compatibility.

In-the-Canal (ITC)
In-the-Canal (ITC)

These hearing aids fill the ear canal and approximately a quarter of the concha. They are custom build built to fit the shape and size of your ear, and because they are slightly larger than a CIC, on-board controls such as program buttons and volume control are optional. Moreover, their size allows for directional microphones and wireless compatibility.

Remote Microphone Custom (unique to Resound)
Remote Microphone Custom (unique to Resound)

These hearing aids are custom built to resemble an ITC style hearing aid but the microphone is attached to a long, thin antenna which tucks up into the antihelix of the ear. These hearing aids are often wireless compatible and may come with on-board controls. Their unique design may offer some benefits from wind noise.

In-the-Ear (ITE)
In-the-Ear (ITE)

These custom hearing aids fill in the concha of the ear completely. Because of their size, onboard controls, directional microphones and wireless compatibility are options.

Thin Tube Behind-the-Ear (BTE)
Mini Behind-the-Ear (mini BTE)

These hearing aids have a component that sits behind the ear and a small tube which enters into the ear canal ending in a dome or custom earmold. The casing behind the ear is typically quite discreet, and may or may not come with on-board controls, directional microphones and wireless compatibility.

Standard Behind-the-Ear (BTE)
Behind-the-Ear (mini BTE)

These hearing aids have a component that sits behind your ear and a standard tube which enters into the ear canal and ends in a custom earmold. The casing behind the ear can be very small to standard size and can often come with on-board controls and directional microphones. Most BTE’s have wireless compatibility.

Waterproof Behind-The-Ear (Waterproof BTE)
Waterproof Behind-The-Ear (Waterproof BTE)

These hearing aids are more resilient to water and water damage than most hearing aids. These instruments may even be submerged underwater without damage. Because of their waterproof nature, many of these hearing aids do not have on-board controls, but some may come with wireless compatibility.

Hearing Aid Technology

Hearing aid Manufacturers often offer several levels of technology depending on the needs and budget of the patient. Traditionally, most companies offer three or four levels of technology. Generally, in the most advanced level, the most recent technological developments and features are available. As we move down the scale, more and more features are removed from the instruments until we arrive at the basic levels.

Premium

Premium hearing aids offer the highest level of processing and the newest, cutting edge technology in hearing aids. They offer the most adept noise reduction and speech enhancement available. They often have the highest quality feedback management system, the most advanced adaptive microphone systems, as well as wireless and Bluetooth compatibility with the most programming flexibility.

Advanced

Advanced hearing aids offer a very high level of processing and advanced level of technology and features. They are outfitted with high functioning feedback management systems, and offer extensive programming flexibility and highly developed adaptive microphone systems. They offer an excellent level of noise reduction and speech enhancement. Advanced level hearing aids are usually compatible with wireless and Bluetooth devices.

Intermediate

Intermediate hearing aids offers a well-developed level of processing and a good adaptive microphone system, which generally helps at reducing noise and enhancing speech. These hearing aids offer less programming flexibility than the advanced and premium models, but still offer some of the more recent technology and features. Most mid-level hearing aids have a good feedback manager, and are compatible with wireless and Bluetooth devices.

Entry Level

Entry level hearing aids offers the most basic listening experience for hearing aid users. Entry Level Hearing aids often do not have wireless compatibility or options for many different features. They have a less sophisticated processing chip, which means that they are not as adept at noise reduction and speech enhancement as other levels of technology.
